Appearance and Equipment

Where Ferwe is unknown he (masculine forms being somewhat more common than feminine ones) commonly chooses to appear as a living, sentient being common to the locale, but of slightly exotic appearance. Where he is known he will appear in a form similar to how is portrayed; how similar depending on how easily he wishes to be recognized. He appears in the prime of life and health with a height somewhat above the average, and with a density three times that of a normal human.

Ferwe adapts what he wears so that it appears suitable for the local technology and climate of whatever species he seems to be. His clothing and gear may surprise, but it won't shock. That said, his preference is for a long-sleeved, skintight black jumpsuit and golden metallic greaves, vambraces, and low boots. Crossed bandoleers and a matching belt of yellow leather are adorned with pin-fastened pockets, and may carry other items like weaponry or tools. Upon his head is a braided silver circlet set with glowing jewels of many hues. He typically carries black tabi, gloves, and hood to add to the outfit at need along with a gold mask.

Ferwe's normal clothing is highly protective, granting a defense strength of 42 (160 DR) generally and a defense strength of 55 (960 DR) over vulnerable areas. When specifically dressed for battle, he wears a suit of black lamellar armor with golden greaves, vambraces, and breastplate which increases his defense strength to 74 (15,000 DR).

While normally relying on Thrice Free (see below) Ferwe can produce equipment or organisms suited to nearly any environment at need.

Personality

Ferwe gives an impression of distance and tight control. His voice is calm, and he never seems to get excited. Even when giving something his full attention, he seems to be perceiving things others can't. He knows the tongues of all the worlds he has ever visited, and only requires minutes to become familiar with the tongues of a new realm. When attacked one of his favored tactics is to take the attacker's weapons and use them himself.

History

The world where Ferwe was born was rich, advanced, and powerful, traveling between the stars under its own power and with a population of many billions. Testing before his birth revealed Ferwe had the potential to become one of the world's sacred guardians and his parents turned him over to a religious order that combined monastic and mendicant aspects with extensive martial training. As a member of this order Ferwe progressed more slowly than most. His order was focused on the study of religion and the power of chi, but he spent much time familiarizing himself with other studies and powers. The members of Ferwe's order possessed great powers and used them in the service of their world, but their work was dangerous in spite of the awesome powers they wielded. Though Ferwe's abilities developed slowly, he managed what few did and successfully survived to reach the upper ranks.

Shortly after reaching what his order considered to be a high rank (GURPS rank 6), a disaster struck Ferwe's world. It came as an easily transmissible plague with a long incubation period which combined biology with many supernatural aspects. Even the world's sacred guardians were not immune, though the few who were immune to the plague, including Ferwe, came from their numbers. For a generation Ferwe fought against the plague, fought against the effects of the plague, and finally fought to preserve any part of the glory that used to belong to his world. In spite of his battles his world was reduced to a few enclaves with much reduced knowledge and ability in the midst of a population reduced to non-sentience. On the edge of despair he approached the gods who, in the end, took him from his world and made him an immortal in their service; most particularly the service of the deity of Energy.

While Ferwe did not abandon the abilities he'd learned as a mortal as an immortal he struck out on a completely different course. He delved deeply into technology and reshaped his body into a technological wonder. He learned to appreciate bodily pleasures like sex, food, and sleep. His duties for the gods showed him the endless variation of existence and he learned to appreciate them all. In time he even came to regard the loss of his world with detachment, although he mourns it still.

As an immortal, the actions that Ferwe performed on the behalf of the gods were done well, but without the ability shown by other immortals. Nevertheless, Ferwe showed a certain flair which brought him to the notice of the gods, and, through the tests they set him, eventually revealed sufficient talent to be ascended to their ranks. However, when it came time for his ascension, none of his pantheon felt qualified to handle his training as a deity. When the problem was set before Ferwe he asked if it would be acceptable for him to be ascended without a sponsor. He would be remain a general ally of the pantheon, but pursue his studies independently. After much discussion, and Ferwe was ascended as an independent member of his pantheon. No one was prepared for the result.

Unlike his progress as mortal and immortal, Ferwe has shot up through the divine ranks with nearly unprecedented speed. As a divinity Ferwe traveled even more widely than he had as an immortal. Under his independent studies he first learned and then mastered his temporal nature. Traveling to the realm of spirits he studied and mastered various forms of spiritualism. Intending to make a pillar of Dimensional Travel, he surveyed the nature of various dimensions, and, completely by accident, ran across that rarest of things: an uncontested plane.

There were those, however, who did not appreciate Ferwe's new ability. Shortly after binding his plane he was called to account for his actions by his pantheon. Unable to understand his defense, for there were no temporals in his patheon, he was stripped of all divine ability. However, he'd managed to defend himself to the point that the pantheon agreed that should he produce proof of his innocence they would restore his power. Seeing only one course which might satisfy the pantheon, Ferwe set out to seek the Transcendent known as Father Time. The quest was long and hard, but in the end successful. Faced with the judgement of Father Time, Ferwe's pantheon reversed themselves and restored his divinity.

His divinity restored, Ferwe returned to his projects. Several races were brought to the plane of N'Ferra as colonists, and certain races native to that plane were uplifted to sentience. Trading favors, he purchased the miniplane of Sparlan as an ancestral realm for the souls of his worshipers and grew it to a full plane, making it his home plane in the process. He continued his explorations and studies and divided his pillar into two; the pillars of Dimension and Discovery. As his cult grew larger, he raised certain individuals to immortality, but in so doing made a serious error. Inexperienced with selecting mortals to become immortal, and on poor terms with the deities he might have asked for advice, Ferwe's selections of the mortals to become chancellors and aid his worship were far from optimal. Though little damage was done in the end, Ferwe was eventually forced to remove or even destroy a number of his initial selections. One, however, was clever enough to escape his purge, and eventually ascended to become the deity known as The Dark Lady (currently thought to be of godling rank).

Cautioned by his mistake, Ferwe finally mastered the pillars of Dimension and Discovery. He proceeded to make contacts with pantheons beyond his own, and joined the Council for Progress envigorating the council in so doing. His worship ever increasing Ferwe settled on the general form of the Ministry of Inquiry and the various powers of his paranatural clergy, the espiri and rohain. Though more interested in peace than in war, Ferwe was also forced to fight a number of times in this period. In one case this gained another personal plane (which he later gave to the goddess Demerhaze), and the eternal enmity of the deity involved.

Most recently Ferwe has expanded his organization yet again to deal with an ever-increasing horde of worshipers spread across an ever-larger number of planes, taking care not to repeat his former mistakes. Making contacts across numerous pantheons he met the goddess Demerhaze, and after much discussion the two of them set out on a quest which would become the founding of The Joined.

Planes

N'Ferra is Ferwe's first personal plane. It is a fantasy solar system in a crystal sphere. Further information can be found in a separate files.

Sparlan is Ferwe's second personal plane. Flat and very large, it exists in continual twilight. This is Ferwe's home plane, and where his worshipers find themselves when they die.

Koslan is Ferwe's third personal plane. It is a very chaotic realm where small pieces of matter and energy float freely.

Ferwe is actively worshiped on Synnibarr, Barok-Mek, the Vaash homeworld, and many other worlds. On Synnibarr, Ferwe's main temple is located in the Terra isles close to the west coast of Tedarian Isle in a town named I-Gate. I-Gate is almost completely controlled by Ferwe's church.

Special Equipment

Ferwe's circlet is a sophisticated non-primal artifact which triples his control over non-physical energies (including primal), and enables him to achieve up to twelve times greater effects if given time (one multiple per action). It also acts as a high-speed computer reference, allowing Ferwe to access information he hasn't personally learned.

In addition to the above, Ferwe has access to almost any item, machine, scroll, or potion, producing anything almost at will. He also has access to a large number of genetically engineered organisms, although he finds those a bit harder to produce.

The Mapbooks

Ferwe created The Mapbook to enable him to explore the dimensions better. It is 20cm wide, 27cm high, and 10cm thick with a power rating of 80, and normally sits on a stand beside the entrance to Ferwe's main residence.

The mapbook contains a complete map of all dimensions, pathways, and gates that have been created or explored by Ferwe or his priests, together with any associated restrictions, rituals, or trials. Pages of the book also contain maps of the areas, cities, and towns touched by the above. The maps cross-reference to short descriptions of the features mapped, and these descriptions contain references to other works containing more information (but are not in the mapbook itself). The book is capable of answering simple questions about the routes listed by breaking to an appropriate paragraph of text. The book continually updates itself to be as current as possible, but is only as current as the last time an area was visited by Ferwe or his priests.

Ferwe can apport the book to him from any location if not blocked by a primal barrier (10 points of flux required). When held, the book grants the ability to sense all dimensional activity within 2 miles. The bearer may freely trigger and pass through any gates that do not require primal to open, to any free destination the gate provides. If a gate is trapped or opens to a hostile dimension, anyone within 10' of the book will feel uneasy about using that gate.

Thrice Free (The Spear "Trilaxa")

Ferwe's second primal artifact is a weapon, usually taking the form of a staff or cane, but capable of becoming a spear, pike, or even more exotic staff weapon or polearm. Thrice Free can assume any weight up to 2000 tons or become as light as vaccuum, and is capable of dispelling any illusion or removing any disguise. It can also unlock locks, loose even the tightest of bonds, and dispel any magical binding (but not magical barrier) whether mental or physical. It may generate a miniature wormhole for use as a ranged attack (Base Damage Rank 35, 6d*6 (100); each point of flux doubles damage up to damage rank 104, 6d*90,000 (100) with 15 flux). Thrice Free may duplicate itself to create up to three copies, all with the same powers as the original, and may teleport with its wielder through space. Ferwe does not allow others to use Thrice Free, but does occasionally give or loan related weapons.

The Hub

The Hub is a sophisticated primal computer.
