THE COUNCIL FOR PROGRESS

The Progressives are fairly young as a group, and tend to have young members (for deities anyway). While the council of nature has existed for more than 100,000 years, the council for progress was formed less than 2000 years ago. In the beginning, the council was little more than a social group (as many councils still area), but as time went on they became a loose-knit group of allies. There are some indications that the council may become more, but that is for the future.

The Progressives are dedicated to the concepts of discovery and progress. They welcome the opportunity to shape a new world into an ever-improving whole. Erdin acts as the head of the council, but most of the current impetus behind the council comes from Ferris. The gods on this council are concerned with discovery, exploration, improvements, and change for the better.

In general, the Council for Progress is on good terms with the councils of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Agriculture. They are on poor terms with councils of Craft and Deception, and often run into difficulties with the council of Nature. Most other councils (including Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos) are indifferent. Of course, these short, generic descriptions can not describe the complete political situation.

MEMBERS

Various historical gods are mentioned in this section. If you do not want to use historical gods, or disagree with my interpretation, feel free to change names as necessary.

GREATER GODS

Erdin "Ever-Knowing" has the spheres of Progress and History. He is studying the sphere of mourning. Erdin never forgets anything. He is very factual, doesn't show emotions, and is always serious. He controls five planes.

Lugh, "The Shining One," was instrumental in founding the council. Though he doesn't currently lead it, his advice is always listened to. Lugh is confident and friendly, but is also arrogant and often short-tempered. His known spheres include Skill and Travel.

LESSER GODS

Ferris "Questor" is a temporal god. Temporal gods have the special trait of being able to easily handle the paradoxes of time travel. This is a special ability along the lines of crafter and creator deities which is innate to about 1 in 1,000 gods . Ferris has the spheres of Dimensions and Discovery, and is more particularly concerned with the exploration of existence. He continually looks into the distance. He is light-hearted, questioning, and ready for anything. He controls four planes, and is the youngest of all the gods on the council.

Lammeth "The Measure" has the sphere of Truth (more particularly the discovery of truth through science) and is studying the sphere of Records. S/he is a dry, scholarly person who tends to suck the fun out of everything. S/he dislikes change and wants things set in stone with rules for everything. S/he controls two planes. S/he is a member of the Cyberdyne pantheon.

Sif (of the Norse pantheon) is possibly the oldest member of the council. Her honesty and straightforwardness offer the council a breath of fresh air. Of all the members of the council, she is the easiest to find and get to know. Her known sphere is Excellence. It is possible she is a greater god, but this has not yet been confirmed.

DEMIGODS

Sepek "Life-Full" is a crafter god with the sphere of Invention, more particularly the freedom to create anything. Sepek works hard, plays hard, laughs, has fun, doesn't sweat the little things, and doesn't mind getting his/her hands dirty. S/he controls one plane and is in the process of making it his/her home plane.

Scarn "Three Faced" is a demigod with the sphere of Conquest, more particularly the assimilation of ideas through subjugation. Scarn lost everything he once held dear. He is a leader and strategist who analyzes his best course of action, waits until the last moment, and suddenly springs into action. He is a brooding figure known for his terrible rages, but once the rage is over, the subject of his rage is forgotten. Scarn is currently being supported by Erdin, and the council has assigned Jasran to develop a world for his use. Scarn is worshipped in three different aspects. The guard is a competent young man, idealistic and learning his profession. The tutor is stern middle-aged man, knowledgeable, and willing to share that knowledge. The tester is a distant and withered old man who sends troubles on people in order to make them stronger.

Pageille "Mind's Guide" has the sphere of Discovery, particularly the initiation and application of discoveries. She is fun-loving, responsible, temperamental, active, and curious. She is not currently being supported, nor has she requested that the council help her develop and control a plane.

Godlings

Godlings, since they have not mastered a sphere, cannot be full members of the council. However, there are several godlings who often do work for the council, or have been assigned by their patron(s) to assist it. Most of these godlings were either raised cooperatively by several members of the council, or lost their original patron.

Huran's original patron died. He is currently in the service of Erdin. He is studying the sphere of Hunting, which he has expanded to include the hunt for knowledge.

Trenta is in Lammeth's service, and does not speak of her origin. She is studying the sphere of Prosperity.

Sweerim was raised by Erdin shortly after a godswar wiped out Erdin's pantheon. She is researching the sphere of Death, with an emphasis on death as a new beginning.

Commenada was raised by Erdin and Lammeth. It is studying the sphere of Life, with an emphasis on biology.

Tasursei was raised by Lammeth to assist her with the social sciences. He (Tasursei) has chosen to study the sphere of Fellowship, specifically organization created with specific purposes in mind.

Jasran was raised by Erdin, Ferris, and Lammeth to eventually enter the service of Scarn. He is planning to study the sphere of Teaching.

ALLIES

The gods of Wisdom (including Athena, Brihaspati, Odin, and Thoth) have been consistent allies of the council. They often offer assistance, and have protected the council through some of its weak periods in the past. This does not mean they agree with all the Council's goals, but are generally willing to aid.

Hephaestus is another long-time ally of the council, providing them with knowledge when requested. If Zeus hadn't forbidden him to provide items to those outside the Hellene domain, he would offer much more. Of all the pure Craft gods Hephaestus seems to come closest to understanding the purpose of progress.

Thor supports the council only because of his wife Sif. Though he will not go out of his way to aid them (unless specifically cajoled by his wife) he is always willing to offer his hospitality.
