It is the time of the collapse. For thousands of years, the Human Commonwealth ruled the galaxy from its capital at Sol. Masters of high technology, the Commonwealth was the greatest state in history until brought down by its sheer size and raiders from its fringes. With the Collapse, violence, conquest, and ignorance are the way of life of countless worlds, but in the Logres Cluster, an atypical cluster separated from the main body of the galaxy, a group of heros will decide whether the Collapse will being The Long Night or A New Day.

It was 57 years ago that Sol, humanity's birthplace, was sacked and conquered. Though the Commonwealth still exists, after a fashion, its days are clearly numbered. In the Logres Cluster invasions from outside were finally halted, but only at the cost of those who had gained the loyalty of the entire cluster and stabilized its economy and government. Today, there is no clear succession. Lords (descendants of those genetically engineered before the collapse), both little and great, bicker. Combat skill, leadership and political ability, psionics, mecha, and various forms of technology become counters in games of power and serve whatever ends the possessors choose.
