For over 28 dustries (about 5800 earthyears) the Dragon Empire has expanded across the galaxy. With unparalelled organization, technology, and arcarna, its diplomats, merchants, and warriors have have grown the empire to about fifteen million star systems. Today one part of its border faces a region known as the Small Kingdoms -- a large number of three to eight star system polities and much unexplored territory. Many of the Small Kingdoms are advanced in a particular area of society, technology, or arcana, but, even united, do not match the full range of the Dragon Empire.
Fantasy Stars is a game of heros and villains, magic and technology, great powers -- and great responsibilities. In this area of the galaxy, a few men and women will shape the course of history. One of them may be you.
Fantasy Stars is a Space Fantasy game using GURPS 4th edition. The style is towards the high end of cinematic (close to over the top). The game will include business, combat, government, scholarship, and social aspects, but the degree of each will be determined by the players. Characters will begin as extremely competant (250 point characters), but can expect to quickly increase in power. Characters must be approved by the GM, but this is very much an anything goes setting. Players should nonetheless be very careful about giving their characters abilities outside of conventions of Space Fantasy including: military rank, paranoia, high status, and high-end ultra-tech gadgets.
These conventions are commonly used in this game:

More than 28 dustries past the Great Houses ended their continuous wars in the realization that if they continued there would be nothing worthwhile left to fight over. The 19 Great Houses worked out a power sharing arrangement whereby each house would take it in turn to lead the Empire over the course of a cycle (~12,400 earthyears). Each house was guaranteed certain authorities, and all agreed to abide by certain standards. About 25 trer (~86 earthyears) ago control of the empire passed to house Kremzirren and the Reign of Iron (in the cycle of Gold in the Age of Gold). Kremzirren is a house of unparalelled opportunists, marked by such attitudes as: "Might make right," "Advance through unbridled competition," and "Health by social darwinism."
The great house are ruled by dragons. "Dragon," as used here, is not a race, but a degree of power. The races are known as Drakes or Lung or the like.
Currently the Empire is directing its attention against more easily conquered areas than the Small Kingdoms. Eventually, however, its attention will turn towards the Small Kingdoms . . .
