Exquaestio

Concept

Exquaestio was born in 1436 in the Junder region. Founded by a politically astute and religiously sophisticated deity it became a strong, if minor religion by 1452. Though much remains to be done, Exquaestio's foundation has been laid. Still vibrant and growing Exquaestio is adapting to the cultures of different areas of Qaiyore and working on devloping its magic. Considered a minor religion, most governments and other religions aren't quite sure about what actions to take concerning this newcomer. For good or ill, Exquaestio is now a part of Qaiyore that would be difficult to remove.

(Exquaestio is a member of the Ministry of Inquiry but has no contact with other mortal denominations. Celandra, both the physical realm and the dreaming have been placed under the aegis of Chasrai Frren-Ktk (called "Friend Kittik" by Exquaestio), chancellor of magical realms. The servai Parr has been assigned to those tasks in Celandra which require divine capabilities. As of 1452 two immai are assigned to Celandra along several departed spirits and numerous prayer gatherers.)

The local deity Demerhaze has allied herself with Exquaestio's founding deity (Feroze) and the two are worshipped together. From the Ministry of Inquiry, Leetween (called Dame Lettin) and Parr (Dame Parr) are worshiped as minor deities. Most Celandran deities are currently neutral, but Coron is cooperative, and Lucia, Sedon, and the Lord of the Sea are hostile.

Overview

As of 1452 Exquaestio has about 20,000 members in areas throughout the MidSea, from Vizinia and Mirrish Tirmar to Videssia and Rhudyn. Strongest in Junder, Tanimbar, and South Orasaren, it is still a minority religion everywhere. Exquaestio is expanding steadily and word about the religion is spreading, particularly among travelers and entertainers. They have contacts with a number of other religions and local governments. In most areas they are not significantly active in politics or trade, but they are involved in founding the Kingdom of Junder and aiding the Tanimbar Goblins.

There are major ecclesia in Anecir, Cormenaera (the Grand Ecclesia), Crisaeda, Lowfells in Junder (the Mother Preceptory), Mirabalpur, and Orasar in Tanimbar. Minor ecclesia are scattered thoughout the area of Exquaestio's activity, and areas without ecclesia are served by anradan teachers or vicars.

Exquaestio is an activist religion which offers a number of services to its members. The basic principle is that everyone should be the best they can possibly be, and Exquaestio should aid in that endeavor. Teaching is the main service, but the different branches of the church get along well and provide protection and communications as well. Exquaestio's magical knowledge supports all members. It continues to increase, but progress is slow.
